I played with it for a couple minutes, and really like it. This implementation is a lot better than Yahoo's. Some of my contacts are automatically followed and recommendations are pretty good. It's easier and more intuitive. I like that you can edit your status updates.

I'm not sure about early adopters. BetaMax was the favorite of early adopters but VHS won out in the end.

Interesting to hear your thoughts, Joel. Great point about Apple missing the mark on creating a tech device that will simplify our lives. Apple has given birth to something that is not quite there yet but I think that we will see some interesting things come of this. Awesome video!! haha

Indeed, all very good points. Sometimes I think people would prefer the regular reading experience, particularly if you're somewhere where they can't make noise (and don't want to wear headphones), or if they're reading a textbook or magazine that is image-heavy, but yes, these are just more reasons why e-readers just aren't all that important in the long run march of technology.

Everyone keeps obsessing over the screens. Crazy idea but why not have the tablet read to you? Amazon's Kindle already does this. It's just limited by the publisher allowing the books to be read. But what if there was a device that could vocalize text you direct at it? Emails, blogs, books, magazines, etc.

Take it further. If the device can speak to you, why not tell it what to do? Voice commands with a speech-to-text system to solve the issue of input.

i too found myself completely lost / bored with google wave.

i'm thinking...it's because no one else i know or chat with regularly uses it (ala the first days of gmail). i'm sure in the future when they open it up a bit that it will take off.

now i'm not saying that all the added features will be of any use to anyone or if people really care to be logged into a web page all day JUST to converse with people on gw but we'll see. i'm thinking...even if i have three people to "wave" to...i wouldn't bother.

kinda like twitter....who really cares?

I agree with everything said with one addition and one reservation. In addition, I'll just say this: try using it WITHOUT Google Chrome since most of the world will. In reservation, I do believe its adoption will grow significantly over time as new, young, web savvy users join the party. It's just a little ahead of its time and quite unpolished.

I'm really surprised how bad Google Wave is. I used it for the first time on Friday, with 3 other people, and it is confusing more than anything else. I'm really not sure what this tool is supposed to help me accomplish. And yes, the editing of other people's messages was just plain weird.
